Things are pretty much the same. They gave dad a bath this morning. His heart rate has been fluctuating a little bit and so they continue to do blood work. Last night his blood pressure had stabilized some, but this morning it was erratic again, so they’ve got him back on the blood pressure meds. His blood sugar and electrolytes have been up as well, so they are monitoring that closely, too.
They inserted the feeding tube this morning and after they X-Ray him to make sure it is in the right place, they are going to slowly start feeding him. They will monitor that closely to make sure he handles it OK.
He is still sedated, but they will probably start reducing that from time to time to see if he responds. Dr. Baughman told us yesterday he was in a “comatose state”, but we’re not sure exactly what that means. Since he’s also sedated, I’m not sure what the difference is. Since they are hoping for some response from him as they experiment with reducing the sedation meds, I guess that means he’s not in a coma per se. We’ll try to learn more about this.
Some good news is that the Dr. said he is doing some breathing on his own. He’s still on the ventilator, but they can tell if some of the breathing is coming from him and it is. We’ll take every little bit of good news that we can get!
Hang in there, Dad!
